Introduction:

James joined Linenhall Chambers as a Third Six Pupil in January 2018 and became a tenant in April 2018.

James’ practice covers the following areas:

Costs

James possesses extensive experience in costs litigation, ranging from technical challenges to retainers, third party costs applications and issues surrounding fixed costs, through to attending detailed assessments and costs budgeting hearings in high value and complex litigation.

James is also able to provide detailed advice on costs matters and draft Points of Dispute, Points of Reply and skeleton arguments as required.

Personal Injury

James has developed a growing practice in personal injury litigation, including matters arising out of road traffic accidents, accidents at work and public liability cases. James’ practice includes regularly attending MOJ stage 3/disposal hearings, small claims/fast track trials and interlocutory hearings, including costs and case management conferences and infant approval hearings.

Credit Hire

James has developed a keen interest in credit hire disputes and is regularly instructed in relation to small claims/fast track credit hire disputes and appeals.

Career History:

After completing the Bar Professional Training Course in 2011, James worked for a prominent costs draftsmen firm in Manchester, specialising in high value and complex costs claims in a wide variety of areas, including catastrophic personal injury and clinical negligence. James then joined Horwich Farrelly Solicitors in April 2013, during which time James completed the Legal Practice Course and qualified as a solicitor with higher rights of audience.

During his employment as a solicitor, James acted in a range of civil matters whilst continuing to specialise in legal costs claims, with a particular focus on costs budgeting as well as high value and technical costs matters. As a solicitor-advocate, James developed significant courtroom experience across England and Wales, including the Royal Courts of Justice and the Senior Courts Costs Office, at a wide variety of hearings, including CMC/CCMCs, infant approval hearings, stage 3 hearings and detailed assessments.

James has also delivered numerous training sessions to clients and fellow practitioners.
