Members of Linenhall Chambers have overwhelmingly decided to support the Criminal Bar Association call for direct action in relation to the new AGFS scheme. It means that most members will be refusing defence cases with legal aid certificates dated after the 1stApril, 2018. We are a Chambers who prosecute and defend. We are proud of that. It is healthy and promotes true professionalism and independence in our specialist trial advocates. We are taking action not because we believe the architecture of the new AGFS Scheme is objectionable. It is because there has been a refusal by the government to build into the scheme any increase in investment. It is because the government refuses to agree any regular review and potential for increases in fees in the future. Linenhall – Pro Bono Immigration Advice Clinic

Pro Bono Immigration Advice Clinic Linenhall Chambers recently marked the five-year anniversary of an important local project supported by Chambers. In 2013, Members of Linenhall Chambers established an immigration and asylum advice clinic in co-operation with the Chester Citizen’s Advice Bureau located in central Chester. For several years, Barristers from Linenhall Chambers have been giving their time and efforts unpaid to assist people in need of advice on important issues relating to immigration: asylum, student and work visas, and benefits related issues. Simon Medland QC appointed as Circuit Judge

Linenhall are delighted to announce that The Queen has appointed Simon Medland QC to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable David Lidington MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable Lord Burnett of Maldon. The Lord Chief Justice has deployed Simon to the Northern Circuit, based at Preston Crown Court with effect from 22 January 2018. Simon will be known as His Honour Judge Medland QC. He was called to the Bar in 1991 by Middle Temple and took silk in 2011. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2005. Linenhall Chambers are delighted to welcome four new members to our civil and criminal teams. Jo Maxwell, a senior criminal lawyer joins our robust criminal team. Samantha Lumley and James Woodcock join our civil team. Samantha was Called to the Bar in 2009 and is a specialist civil barrister. James qualified as a solicitor and was Called to the Bar in 2011. He has acted in a range of civil matters, specialising in legal costs claims. Ember-Jade Wong joined Linenhall Chambers in 2017 following the completion of her pupillage with the Crown Prosecution Service. She is a member of the civil and criminal teams. Ben Douglas-Jones to be appointed to QC in February 2018

Linenhall Chambers are delighted to announce that The Queen has approved the Lord Chancellor’s recommendation that Ben Douglas-Jones be appointed a QC in 2018.  Ben will take silk at a ceremony in Westminster Hall on 26th February 2018. Ben Douglas-Jones is a specialist fraud, criminal and regulatory barrister. He is highly recommended in Chambers and Partners.
